City of Toronto
- Starting tomorrow, April 7th, the Red Cross is offering alternative access to food hampers for qualifying seniors who do not have alternative access to food and are not receiving assistance from another community food program. Please call the Red Cross at 1-833-204-9952 for more details.
- Food banks are now open at some Toronto Public Libraries.

- Many people will be observing Passover, Easter and the start of Ramadan. The City urges everyone to continue to follow provincial orders that close places of worship, limit gatherings and observe public health recommendations to remain at home.
- Those planning to celebrate a faith-based holiday with a special meal for members of their household should be mindful of the current situation in the wider community. Grocers are anticipating that tomorrow, Thursday and Saturday will be busy shopping days and ask people to limit shopping on these days.
Government of Ontario
- Govt. of Ontario is launching a new web portal, connecting workers with employers looking to fill positions in the agri-food sector making it easier to match people to essential jobs and training resources throughout the provincial food supply chain - Link: https://www.ontario.ca/page/agriculture-and-food-jobs-ontario
- Ontario is offering direct financial support to parents while Ontario schools and child care centres remain closed with the new Support for Families Initiative that offers a one-time payment of $200 per child 0-12 years old of age, and $250 for those 0-21 years of age with special needs- Link to apply online: https://www.ontario.ca/page/get-support-families#section-1
- Parents already receiving Support for Parents payments through direct deposit will be automatically eligible for this financial support and do not need to submit a new application
- The government has will allow police, firefighters and paramedics to obtain status information about individuals with whom they are coming into contact
- Information will be limited to individual's name, address, date of birth and whether the individual has tested positive for COVID-19.
Government of Canada
- Millions of medical supplies are arriving in Canada now.
- Prime Minister Trudeau is speaking with President Trump to discuss how both countries can work together to fight COVID19. The Prime Minister expects medical shipments from the United States to arrive soon.
- An announcement on how to qualify for Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) is coming for those who are working less than 10 hours a week and those who are making less than they would if they received CERB e.g. long-term care workers, home-care workers.
- The federal government recognizes that many university students will be without a job this summer and help is on the way for them.
- Dr. Tam has advised that in addition to physical distancing, frequent hand-washing and protecting sneezes, Canadians may wear non-medical facemasks (cotton sheets, shirts, bandanas) to prevent asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic transmission of the virus.
- Canadians are reminded that medical facemasks are important for frontline health care workers.
